Customer Questions & Answers
-
Question:
What is the 18650 Battery Shield, Micro USB V3 used for?
Answer: The 18650 Battery Shield, Micro USB V3 is designed to power the ESP32, a versatile WiFi and Bluetooth microcontroller. This module allows for easy charging of 18650 batteries via a micro USB port, making it highly convenient for portable projects. It is ideal for developers working on IoT devices, DIY electronics, or any project that requires wireless communication. By providing a stable power source, this shield ensures consistent performance during your applications. -
Question:
How do I connect the 18650 Battery Shield to the ESP32?
Answer: To connect the 18650 Battery Shield to the ESP32, align the shield's pins with the ESP32 board and gently press it down to ensure a secure fit. The shield is designed for straightforward plug-and-play functionality. Make sure to connect the battery correctly, ensuring proper polarity. Once connected, your ESP32 can be powered efficiently, allowing for seamless operation in various applications, such as remote sensors or wireless communication modules. -
Question:
Is the 18650 Battery Shield compatible with all ESP32 boards?
Answer: The 18650 Battery Shield, Micro USB V3 is generally compatible with most ESP32 development boards. However, some boards may have different pin configurations or dimensions. It's important to check the specifications of both the shield and your specific ESP32 model to ensure compatibility. Compatibility ensures that your projects running on ESP32 can benefit from uninterrupted power supply from the battery shield. -
Question:
What type of 18650 battery is recommended for use with this shield?
Answer: When using the 18650 Battery Shield, it is recommended to use a high-quality lithium-ion 18650 battery with a protection circuit. Look for batteries with a capacity of at least 2000mAh for optimal performance. Using a battery with a protection circuit helps prevent overcharging and incorrect discharging, which enhances the battery's longevity and makes it safe for use in electronic projects powered by the ESP32. -
Question:
Can I use the Micro USB port for data transfer?
Answer: No, the Micro USB port on the 18650 Battery Shield is exclusively for charging the battery and not for data transfer. The ESP32 board will handle data communication through its own built-in USB or serial interfaces. This designated charging function allows for uninterrupted power supply while enabling the ESP32 to connect to various sensors or devices without interference, ensuring reliable performance across projects. -
Question:
How can I monitor the battery level with this shield?
Answer: While the 18650 Battery Shield does not come with built-in battery level monitoring, you can implement battery monitoring in your ESP32 project by utilizing an analog input pin. By connecting a voltage divider circuit to the battery output, the ESP32 can read the voltage and determine the battery level. This setup allows you to create a custom warning system for low battery cases in your applications, ensuring that you stay informed about your power status. -
Question:
What are some practical applications for the 18650 Battery Shield with ESP32?
Answer: The 18650 Battery Shield is ideal for portable projects such as weather stations, GPS trackers, or remote sensors. It provides a reliable power source for IoT projects that require mobility. MELIFE Single Board Computers Editorial Review
The MELIFE 18650 Battery Shield is a charging module designed for use with ESP32 WiFi modules. It is designed to charge the battery while providing power for the ESP32 module. However, according to customer reviews, this product has a lot of issues. Several customers expressed that the board fell apart upon receiving it, and the charging port and connector would dislodge easily. Others stated that the switch didn't work properly and it only put out 1.2-1.3V on all outputs regardless of the switch position. Moreover, the product did not work for some customers, even after multiple batteries were tried, leaving them very disappointed. While some customers were able to use it successfully for powering their ESP8266 modules, the fragile Construction and lack of reliable features make this a product to avoid.
